A look into Prince’s private life as a Jehovah’s Witness

(CNN) — New information in the investigation of the death — and life — of music icon Prince. The artist, who was having some health issues in recent weeks, was a devout Jehovah’s Witness, and some are wondering if his religion played a part in his choosing to receive treatment. The Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall, St. Louis Park Congregation, was Prince’s home church for the past decade. Prince was baptized there in 2003 and embraced it. He studied his Bible, marking it with post-it notes. Here, Prince asked to go by the name of Brother Nelson — his legal last name — dutifully knocking on doors monthly. Elder James Lundstrom says he befriended Prince 14 years ago. He accompanied Brother Nelson on his ministry, and in one instance, a woman “probably in her early 40s” came to the door. “He has a nice presentation, and in the middle of it, the woman says, ‘Excuse me, but has anyone told you that you look a lot like Prince?’ He looks at her, and says, “It’s been said. Going back to my m..

Sheila E. recounts her life with her former fiance Prince

NEW YORK (AP) — It was during a musical high – a rhapsodic rendition of “Purple Rain” – that Prince turned to his drummer, Sheila E., and asked her to marry him. “In the midst of that song, you sometimes forget where you are,” Sheila E., a former percussionist and vocalist with Prince whose real name is Sheila Escovedo, said in an interview Friday from Minneapolis, where she’d flown upon hearing of Prince’s death. “You’re playing and you close your eyes and you don’t realize that there are other people in the room. I opened my eyes and at that same moment he turned around because musically we had hit a place where we were at a high, and he proposed to me.” The 58-year-old musician said she was coping with the loss of her former fiance – the two never married, but had a long collaboration – by trying to remember some of the more amusing times with Prince. “Thirty-eight years of him and I being together, there’s just so many memories good and bad,” she said. “It’s a pit in my stomach..
